The Transfer House

Many may have heard that our Mayor has suggested we move the Transfer House back to it's original location: to Lincoln Square.

So, what do you all think? The *OLD* blogDecatur did have an article written at one time, but I wonder, as the topic has been discussed more and more, have people's minds changed? What's the current opinion?

I personally think it would be cool to do this; I just wonder how the traffic would work.

I like the mayor's idea. It would slow down the Curry trucks racing down Main St.

I like Spongie's thoughts. To me, the most important thing is taking advantage of our Lincoln connection. Three are other ways to slow down traffic; I don't think the final study is in yet, but it's hard to see how the Transfer House would handle the stress of the move.

For those of us who haven't lived here forever, the attachment to the Transfer House is a little hard to understand. I frankly liked it a few years ago when they were trying to come up with another logo for the city (unfortunately they ended up with the ill-fated attempt that sort of looked like the Japanese flag).

Paul Osborne is a good guy who loves Decatur, but it seems to me that he gets an awful lot of mileage out of trying to assure everyone that it's really 1956 and that everything will be all right again. It's time to move forward.

I think the mayor needs to get out more information on why this move would be better for the city.

Otherwise, it looks like a big waste of money.

The idea of using the Transfer House as a form of traffic control is absurd. Traffic light timing and law enforcement can do this much more efficiently than plopping down a building in the middle of the street to slow trucks down.
There are elements of the plan that the mayor needs to better explain and "sell" to the public. I'm fairly sure that "slowing traffic" is a side effect of the plan, not a target.

If you want to slow traffic down, take a lane out downtown...that would be cheaper.
